There are usually two ChemEng formals; Christmas Dinner and the Dinner Dance. Both of these events will most certainly be enhanced with the presence of lecturers of the department, most notably Prof Rex Thrope who will hold a short speech and Dr Alan Millington (for as long as we can still get hold of him). In more recent years we have managed to steal some time out of Prof Jonathan Seville, Dean of FEPS.
Christmas Dinner is organized as semester one approaches an end, in late December. This event is usually quite formal, however it is not expected that anyone comes in complete suits. The venue is also usually smaller and attendance is less abundant, as everyone likes to leave early to go home for Christmas.

Dinner Dance is an event that is usually hosted in a very formal venue, such as a golf club, and does expect its participants to wear as formal clothing as possible.
On the calendar, it is situated after the Easter holidays in April, as semester two approaches the end, but before the revision period for final examinations.
It is always an excellent opportunity to talk to everyone involved in the department, such as non-lecturing staff and postgraduate students... and of course, the atmosphere!
